The main difference is that master’s degrees in the UK usually guarantee eligibility for the Graduate Visa (post-study work visa), while the Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning 2 (GDTL2) may not.

- Master’s degree: Typically grants a Graduate Visa for 2 years (if you apply by 31 Dec 2026) or 18 months (from 1 Jan 2027). This 2-year period applies to applications made before 1 January 2027; applications submitted on or after that date receive 18 months, while PhD graduates continue to receive 3 years. Widely recognized and offers broad work rights during the visa period.
- GDTL2: Eligibility for the Graduate Visa depends on whether the diploma is officially recognized as a degree-level qualification and is at least 12 months long. If not, you may not qualify for the same post-study work rights or duration.

Recognition and course length are key factors.
