Should I apply through the Embassy Track or the University Track for the Korean Government Scholarship?
Both tracks of the Korean Government Scholarship offer the same benefits. With the Embassy Track you apply through the South Korean Embassy in your country and can apply to multiple universities. With the University Track you apply directly to one participating university, and NIIED conducts the second-round selection.
Both tracks give you the same scholarship benefits, but the way you apply and the number of universities you can choose differ. The Embassy Track gives more flexibility, while the University Track suits you if you already know your university.
Embassy Track vs University Track
| Feature | Embassy Track | University Track |
|---|---|---|
| Where you apply | South Korean Embassy in your home country | Directly to a participating South Korean university |

| Next stage | Shortlisted applications reviewed by NIIED and participating universities | Shortlisted applications go to NIIED, which conducts the 2nd-round selection |
| Process length | Follows the embassy's schedule | Follows the university's schedule |
Which one fits you
- Choose the Embassy Track if you want flexibility in where you study.
- Choose the University Track if you have already decided on your university.
My Advice
Decide your target universities first, then pick the track. Read the official guidelines for the current cycle, since eligibility and steps can be updated each year.
