How many Modular Credits do I need for a bachelor's versus an honours degree at NUS?
At the National University of Singapore, a standard bachelor's degree needs a minimum of 120 Modular Credits (now called Units), usually around three years of study. An honours degree needs 160 and roughly four years. NUS now uses Units and courses terminology for each course's time and effort.
You need a minimum of 120 Modular Credits (MCs) for a standard bachelor's degree at the National University of Singapore, and 160 MCs for an honours degree. That usually translates to around three years for the bachelor's and roughly four years for honours. MCs simply track how much time and effort a course expects from you. NUS now uses the terms Units and courses instead of Modular Credits and modules.

Choice of study at NUS
- NUS has roughly 17 faculties and schools, and offers more than 4,000 courses (formerly called modules) each semester.
- Popular areas include computer science and information systems, law, architecture and built environment, electrical and electronic engineering, and business administration with accountancy.
- Medicine and Dentistry are very competitive, with limited international seats each year.
My Advice
Decide early whether you want the three-year or four-year route, because it changes your total tuition and living costs. Confirm the exact credit requirement for your own faculty on the official NUS site before you commit.
