How long do I need to keep the money in the block account, is it for months or years in Germany?
You need to keep the required amount in the blocked account for the entire duration of your first year in Germany - typically 12 months.
The blocked account is set up before your visa application and remains in place after you arrive. You can withdraw a fixed monthly amount (currently up to €992/month) from the account while studying. After the first year, if you extend your visa, you may need to show proof of funds again for the next period.
If you have more questions about maintaining your blocked account, please contact your LeapScholar counsellor.
