How is campus life at NTU in Singapore? Is it different from what I expect from an Indian engineering college?
NTU's campus is spacious and older, located in the western part of Singapore, which is relatively isolated from the central city where most activity, restaurants, and events are concentrated. The mentor acknowledged she has barely visited NTU herself. The campus has proper dorm life, and clubs and activities within NTU are described as genuinely good. Dorm activities are also organised within the residential halls.
• The isolation of NTU's western location means accessing central Singapore for events or socialising takes meaningful effort, closer to a two-hour round trip.
• When coming from Indian cities with heavy traffic, a two-hour commute sounds normal. Once in Singapore, where the whole island is small and compact, two hours feels long for everyday movement.
• Going out in Singapore is more expensive than in India, frequent spontaneous trips, late-night drives, and the fest culture of Indian engineering colleges do not happen in the same way.
• Cheap activities do exist, rental cycles are available for around SGD 1 per hour, but the lifestyle is quieter, more self-directed, and more individually expensive than most Indian engineering students expect.
