The UK offers a faster student visa process and a more flexible post-study work option, while the US process takes longer but can provide a longer work period for STEM graduates.

- UK: Student visa typically processed in about 3 weeks. After your master's, you can apply for the Graduate Visa - 2 years of work (or 18 months if applying from January 2027). This 2-year period applies to applications made before 1 January 2027; applications submitted on or after that date receive 18 months, while PhD graduates continue to receive 3 years. No employer sponsorship needed for this period. NHS healthcare included with the Immigration Health Surcharge.

- US: F-1 visa process can take 2-4 months and requires a visa interview. After your master's, you can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) - 12 months of work, or 36 months if your degree is STEM. OPT does not require immediate employer sponsorship, but staying longer usually needs an H-1B visa, which is competitive.

Visa fees, work permit durations, and policies are subject to change.
