In Australia, spouses of student visa holders usually receive dependent visas that allow them to work full-time for any employer while you study.

In New Zealand, your spouse’s work rights depend on your study level:
- Master’s or doctoral (Level 9 or 10): Spouse can get a Partner of a Student Work Visa with full-time, open work rights.
- Bachelor’s or honours (Level 7 or 8): Spouse may qualify for open work rights if your course is on the Green List or eligible for a post-study work visa (PSW). Otherwise, only a visitor visa (no work rights) may be granted.

Spouses must apply for the correct visa, show proof of relationship, and meet health and character requirements. Work rights are linked to the type of visa granted.
