How does selection work if I apply to the Korean Government Scholarship through the Embassy Track?
In the Embassy Track of the Korean Government Scholarship Program, the South Korean Embassy in your country screens your application first. Shortlisted applicants are recommended to NIIED, which reviews them, then participating universities assess eligible candidates and decide on admission, and NIIED finally announces the scholarship recipients.
If you apply through the Embassy Track, your file passes through several stages before results are announced. The embassy screens it first, and NIIED and participating universities then review it in turn.
Embassy Track stages
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Embassy screening | The South Korean Embassy in your country reviews your application |
| 2. Recommendation | Shortlisted applicants are recommended to the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) |
| 3. NIIED review | NIIED evaluates the recommended applications |
| 4. University review | Participating universities assess eligible candidates and make admission decisions |
| 5. Final results | NIIED announces the final list of scholarship recipients |
How it differs from the University Track
The University Track is slightly shorter. Your chosen university screens your application, recommends selected applicants to NIIED, and NIIED conducts the final evaluation before results are announced.
My Advice
Read the official scholarship guidelines for the current admission year and contact the embassy for its exact dates and document list. Prepare your documents early, since the embassy screening is the first hurdle.
