Why I Would Not Default To A Generic Legal Studies Degree

Auckland describes its Master of Legal Studies as intended for professionals who work closely with law but do not intend to practise it. With your extensive practice experience, a specialised LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law, Litigation, or International Law will build a stronger case for advanced legal roles than a generalist legal studies qualification.

My Advice

In my experience, experienced lawyers under research the accreditation step because the LLM application process feels like the main hurdle. Start the NZCLE or NCA assessment conversation early, in parallel with your LLM applications, since it can take considerable time and will affect how quickly you can actually work in either country after graduating.
