No, you don't always need to retake the entire IELTS exam if you don't get the required score the first time.

You have two options:
- Retake the full IELTS test for all four sections.
- IELTS One Skill Retake: If you only need to improve one section (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking), you can retake just that part. This option is accepted by Immigration New Zealand and all New Zealand universities, but only for computer-based tests at eligible centers. Acceptance by your chosen institution or visa category is subject to change.
