Denmark Cost & living Questions

Accommodation for students in Copenhagen costs roughly EUR 600 to EUR 1,200 (about DKK 4,000 to 10,000) per month, with private rentals at the higher end. Copenhagen is the most expensive student city in Denmark. Cheaper options include Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg, where accommodation is lower.

International students can cut costs in Denmark by choosing public universities, applying for scholarships, living in cheaper cities like Aalborg or Odense, sharing accommodation, cooking at home, using student discounts, buying used books and working part time. Together these steps can meaningfully lower your monthly and yearly spend.

Master's programs at public universities in Denmark cost international students between EUR 6,000 and EUR 16,000 per year, over a typical duration of 2 years. Private universities charge EUR 10,000 to EUR 20,000 per year. Fees vary by institution and course, so check each university.

If you hold EU or EEA citizenship, tuition in Denmark and Sweden stays free, so your cost will not rise. Non-EU students pay 8,000 to 18,000 euros yearly in Denmark and 7,000 to 26,000 euros in Sweden, a noticeable increase if moving from a low-fee country like Germany.

Germany is roughly 10 to 15 percent cheaper than Denmark for daily living. A single person spends an average of 1,764 euros a month in Germany, including rent, compared to 2,131 euros in Denmark. Denmark does offer higher average salaries to offset its steeper costs.
