Can you provide information about study options in Germany, including language requirements for a Master's/Bachelor's?
You can study in Germany in either German-taught or English-taught programs.
- German-taught programs: Most bachelor's and many master's courses require strong German language skills, usually B2 or C1 (CEFR). Accepted certificates include TestDaF (level 4), DSH-2, Goethe-Zertifikat, or telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule. German proficiency is typically needed before you apply.
- English-taught programs: Over 1,800 master's programs are available in English. You’ll need proof of English proficiency, such as IELTS (usually 6.0 - 6.5) or TOEFL iBT (80 - 92). Some universities accept a Medium of Instruction certificate if your previous degree was in English. Basic German (B1) is recommended for daily life and part-time work, but not required for admission.
German language skills are essential for everyday life and job opportunities, even if your course is in English. If you need help finding suitable programs or preparing for language exams, your LeapScholar counsellor can guide you.
