Can I study in Canada after Class 12 commerce without Maths, and what do I need?
Canada has no single eligibility rule for commerce students after Class 12. Each university or college sets its own criteria, usually a completed Class 12 from a recognised board, a minimum grade, English proficiency and any program prerequisites. Some business programs require Mathematics, so check each program's admission page.
There is no Canada-wide rule for commerce students, because universities and colleges set their own admission criteria. For most Indian students the starting point is a completed Class 12 that meets the institution's academic standard, and your subjects matter, since Maths can be required for one business program but not another.
What you may need
| Requirement | What to check |
|---|---|
| Class 12 completion | From a recognised board |
| Commerce-stream subjects | Whether your subject combination fits the program |
| Minimum percentage or grade | Set by each institution |
| English proficiency | IELTS Academic, TOEFL, PTE Academic or Duolingo, where accepted |
| Program prerequisites | Subject rules such as Mathematics |
Check Mathematics first
Toronto Metropolitan University's Business Management program requires a Grade 12 Mathematics course, and Seneca's BBA accepts Grade 12 or Grade 11 Mathematics. Test scores also differ by institution and program, so avoid using one IELTS score as a rule for every Canadian college.
My Advice
Open the exact program's admission page before you apply and note the Class 12 subjects, minimum marks, Mathematics and English requirements. It can save you an application fee and a lot of back and forth.
