Yes, most UK MSc programs do not require GRE or GMAT at all. For MBA programs, top schools like Warwick, Imperial, and Manchester offer formal waivers based on work experience and academic performance. The UK is significantly more flexible on test requirements than the US.

Yes - for most MSc programs in the UK, the GRE and GMAT are not required at all. For MBA programs, many top schools offer formal waivers based on work experience, academic performance, or professional qualifications. The UK is significantly more flexible on this than the US.

MSc Programs - Generally No Test Required

Most non-MBA Master's degrees in the UK do not require GRE or GMAT. Admissions focus on undergraduate GPA, statement of purpose, and references.

Exceptions:

  • London Business School: mandates GMAT for MBA; automatic waiver for CFA Level II+.

  • University of Oxford: selective programs may require GRE/GMAT.

  • Imperial College London: offers test-free pathways for MSc International Management.

My Advice

If you're targeting a top-10 UK MBA - Warwick, LBS, Oxford Said, or Imperial - don't assume the waiver is automatic. Warwick will waive it, but you need a genuinely strong academic and professional profile to make that case. If you have 5+ years of relevant work experience and strong academic grades, apply for the waiver formally and make the argument in your application. For MSc programs outside the elite finance schools, you genuinely don't need to spend months preparing for the GMAT - put that time into your SOP and references instead.
