Can I give my computer-based exam from home or do I need to go to a test center in UK/Germany?
Yes, you can take the IELTS Academic test from home in India using the IELTS Online option. This lets you complete the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections on your computer, and the Speaking test via video call with an examiner.
However, IELTS Online is only for the Academic test and is not accepted by immigration authorities. For visa purposes, you must take the test at an official centre.
From September 2026, IELTS in India will be fully computer-based, with paper-based tests ending after July and August 2026.
Since you plan to study in Germany or the UK in 2027, make sure your chosen test format is accepted by your target universities and visa authorities.
