Australia IELTS & English tests - Score requirements

For many Indian students PTE is easier to score high in than IELTS, though it depends on your strengths. PTE uses objective AI scoring, integrated marking that lets strong skills lift weak ones, and no face-to-face interview. Both are accepted across Australia and the UK for study.

For most master's programs in Ireland and Australia starting in January 2027, you will need an overall IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with no individual band below 6.0. Some programs, especially in fields like law or medicine, may require a higher score. Be sure to confirm the exact requirement with your chosen university and program.
