The full form of UNIDO is United Nations Industrial Development Organization. It is classified as a United Nations Specialist Organization. It focuses on stimulating and increasing industrial growth in member countries in order to reduce poverty, achieve full globalisation, and protect the environment. UNIDO was established in 1966 and was renamed the United Nations Specialist Organization in 1985. It is the only United Nations organisation that focuses on eliminating poverty through wealth creation through production.
Its mission is to promote and accelerate ISID (Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development) in member nations, as specified in the Lima Declaration. It assumes that ISID is the most important aspect for long-term growth for the sake of future generations. UNIDO’s headquarters are in Vienna, and it has liaison offices in Geneva, Brussels, and New York, among other places. It has 47 country and regional offices to build a global field infrastructure.

Structure of UNIDO
- UNIDO’s policy-making bodies are the General Conference and the Committee for Industrial Development, as well as a Program and Budget Committee, which is a subsidiary body of the Committee on Industrial Development.
- Approximately 700 UNIDO team members work at headquarters and regional locations throughout the world.
