What is the full form of RADAR?

The full form of RADAR is Radio Detection And Ranging. It is an electrical gadget that uses the microwave section or ultra-high frequency of the radio spectrum to detect barriers in order to control the area of a spot or the range of an object. It can also be utilised to investigate or determine the speed and regulation of an operational object.

Several countries secretly planned and produced it during the Second World War. The term RADAR was first used by the United States Navy in 1940.

Working Principle of RADAR

  • RADAR works by transmitting an electrical signal through the environment.
  • On a pulse track, objects classified as targets distribute virtually all of the energy, but only a small portion is deflected back to the RADAR.
  • As spread radiation enters the receiver from the targets, scattered signals combine to form a powerful signal.

Applications of RADAR

  • Radars are used extensively in military activities. They are utilised for naval, ground, and air defence reasons.
  • Satellites and spacecraft are tracked and detected using RADARs.
  • RADAR systems are used to control air traffic safely. It is used to direct aircraft during landing and takeoff in inclement weather.
  • RADARs are widely used by law enforcement, particularly highway patrol, to measure the speed of a vehicle during a pursuit.
