What is the full form of NTPC?

The full form of NTPC is National Thermal Power Corporation. It is a New Delhi-based Indian public-sector organisation. It was established to increase the country’s power generation. It is India’s most prominent thermal power generating company in terms of installation and output. The NSE lists the NTPC and the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) (National Stock Exchange).

It also has a strong presence in coal mining, equipment manufacture, power trading, renewable energy and power distribution, and power generation. It also provides advisory services related to the design or generation of power plants, as well as customised solutions for domestic and international customers.

A brief history of NTPC

  • It was established as a power-producing company on November 7, 1975.
  • On March 19, 1976, Shri. D.V Kapur was appointed as the first Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC.
  • On December 8, 1976, the Indian government approved the first NTPC project: a power-producing facility in Singrauli, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The designation of Navratna Firm was bestowed in 1997.
  • It became a publicly traded company in 2004 and was renamed NTPC Limited in 2005.
  • In 2006, it reached an agreement with Sri Lanka to build two 250 MW units in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
  • In May 2010, it was designated as a Maharatna firm.
  • Between 2008 and 2011, NTPC collaborated with well-known enterprises like as NHPC, BHEL, Bharat Forge, SAIL, Coal India, and NMDC.
