A Brief History of NIIT
- Rajendra S. Pawar and Vijay K. Thadani, both IIT Delhi graduates, launched NIIT in 1981 with a million rupees. By building nine centres by 1987, NIIT created a franchise model for IT education for the first time.
- In 1986, NIIT began its venture into the software industry with Software Product Delivery under the name Insoft.
- In 2004, the company underwent a reorganisation into two divisions: NIIT Limited and NIIT Technologies.
- In May 2019, Baring Private Equity Asia purchased a managing interest in NIIT Technologies Ltd.
