Qualification Standards For An MLA

To be elected to the position of an MLA, the following qualifications are needed:

  • The person to be elected Should not be under 25 years of age (of legislative assembly) and should not be less than 30 years before becoming a legislative council member.
  • According to the 1951 Representation of the People Act, an individual must be registered for any Legislative Assembly voting demographic in that state. The individual should primarily be an Indian voter.
  • Except for positions as a Minister for the Indian Union, no one may occupy a position of advantage under the governments of India or any state.
  • The Representation of the People Act, 1951, states that if a person has received a court sentence or is thought to be responsible for a particular incident, they are ineligible to continue serving as an MLA.
  • He must remain innocent of all charges and not receive a sentence of two years or more.
