Background of ISO
- In the 1920s, ISO was first known as the International Association of National Standardizing Associations (ISA). It was abandoned in 1942 during the Second World War.
- However, the newly formed UNSCC (United Nations Standards Coordinating Committee) approached ISA with a proposal to establish a new global body of standards after the conflict.
- The three official languages of ISO are Russian, French, and English, with Oxford spelling.
