What is the full form of ISD?

The full form of ISD is International Subscriber Dialing. ISD, also referred to as an IDD (international direct dialling), is the term for an international phone call placed by a subscriber to a telephone service or an individual without the assistance of a phone operator. Each country will receive an ISD number. It is a certain figure or code.

A telephone subscriber needs to include that specific code or number before the person’s phone number to make an international call. Before the term became IDD, ISD was used in the UK and Australia. The majority of international calls are now placed directly since the late 20th century. When phone numbers are created for use abroad, the international call prefix is omitted, and the number should start with a “sign” followed by the country call code. A confirmation code may need to be dialled in the origin country as indicated by the + sign since it comes after the country code.

  • A country code is an item in the International Numbering Plan for Telephones. If someone is dialling a phone number to call a foreign country, they must enter the country code.
  • Before dialling the national telephone number, national codes are entered. By agreement, the nation code is added before the “+ sign” when creating international phone numbers.
