The full form of DIG is Deputy Inspector General. The Indian Police Service grants this rank one star. Compared to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police, this is a higher position (DCP). How to Apply for DIG

The UPSC-conducted Civil Services Exam is the initial requirement for applicants who aspire to be the DIG. The candidate becomes an IPS officer and goes through the required training after passing the exam. The IPS officer is appointed as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) or Assistant Superintendent of Police after completing the programme (ASP). He or she is then promoted to the level of Superintendent of Police (SP), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), and finally, Deputy Inspector General of Police based on experience, track record, and performance (DIG).
