The full form of CVC is Central Vigilance Commission. CVC is a top-level government organisation in India that was started in 1964 to fight governmental corruption. It is known for being a self-sufficient entity that is unaffected by any executive authority. Its duties include supervising all vigilance actions carried out by the Indian Central Government and providing advice to various central government agency officials on how to plan, carry out, analyse, and improve their vigilance work.
It was established by an Indian Government Resolution on February 11, 1964, in response to making the Committee on the Prevention of Corruption’s recommendations, chaired by the Shri K. Santhanam Committee, to advise and direct Central Government entities in the area of vigilance. The nation of India’s first Chief Vigilance Commissioner is Nittoor Srinivasa Rau.

Format of CVC
Typically, the Commission consists of:
- Chairperson – An officer in charge of local surveillance
- Members – Members of the Vigilance Commissioners, two or fewer
Responsibilities of CVC
- Review the inquiries made by the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) into offences committed per the PC Act.
- The examination of any payment in which a public employee of a company is corruptly involved.
- To look into complaints from the informant’s revelation of matters of public concern and security and to recommend appropriate action. A bill passed by Parliament in 2003 grants the CVC legislative status.
