What is the full form of CST?

The full form of CST is Central Sales Tax. It is an indirect tax levied on products bought and sold between states. CST is added to goods by a seller in one state before being sold to a buyer in another. CST is governed by the Central State Tax Act of 1956. The Act establishes interstate trade, the circumstances under which CST is applicable, the details of sanctions and trade restrictions, etc. The Central Government of India imposes the CST, but different states may be subject to it.

Since CST is governed by the state where the transaction originates and is due in the nation’s state where the item is sold, it is an indirect and origin-based tax. Only interstate trades are permitted. It excludes goods produced in a state, goods exported, and goods sold within that state.
