What is the full form of CABG?

The full form of CABG is Coronary Artery Bypass Graft. Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery is another name for CABG. CABG surgery is used to increase blood flow to the heart. This operation is used to treat coronary heart disease. Coronary heart disease is a condition in which a thick substance called plaque forms inside the coronary arteries. These arteries are responsible for delivering oxygen-rich blood to the heart. Plaque is a material that is generated in the blood by cholesterol, fat, and some calcium deposits. Plaque constricts the blood vessels of the heart, resulting in a reduced supply of oxygenated blood to the heart.

Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Diseases

  • ECG, or electrocardiogram, is a technique for determining the electrical activity of the heart. It can forecast oxygen deprivation in the heart, which can help rule out a heart attack.
  • To rule out CAD, a stress test is indicated in which the patient runs on a treadmill or rides a stationary bike while the ECG is taken. An exercise stress test is a form of stress test. Another option is a nuclear stress test, which will monitor blood flow to the heart during rest and exercise.
  • A heart scan and an Angiogram are two further diagnostics. Cardiac catheterization is the most precise way to diagnose a heart blockage.

Other Names of CABG and Risk Factors

Bypass Surgery, Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, and Heart Bypass Surgery are all terms used to describe CABG. It is not required that a person diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease have CABG surgery. CABG is only conducted when the damage has progressed to the point when typical lifestyle changes and food modifications will not be beneficial. While the patient is on meds and treatment, the early phases of CAD will be monitored. Angioplasty, in which a mesh-like substance is placed into the artery to avoid clotting and promote healthy blood flow, is indicated. This is also referred to as stent implantation. If the damage is severe enough, CABG is advised.
