The full form of BIS is Bureau of Indian Standards. BIS is India’s national standards body, operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Nutrition, and Public Distribution of the Indian government. It was established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act of 1986, which went into effect on December 23, 1986. The minister in charge of the BIS’s administrative oversight of the department or agency serves as the BIS’s ex-officio president.
