The full form of BCCI is Board of Control for Cricket India. It is India’s national cricket governing organisation. For both domestic and international cricket in India, it has sole responsibility. It has a fantastic reputation among all cricket boards worldwide and is the richest cricket board in the world.
It oversees all aspects of Indian cricket’s operations. The board chooses players for the men’s and women’s Indian cricket teams for their matches abroad. To choose the rosters and coaching staff for all Indian teams, the BCCI has a selection committee that is formally elected.

India’s international matches are planned by the BCCI in close collaboration with other cricket governing bodies for both domestic and foreign locations. The National Cricket Academy (NCA), a high-performance cricket facility for chosen Indian team players, is under the jurisdiction of the BCCI and is located in Bengaluru. It is also in charge of finding sponsorships and agreements to manage its funds.
Evolution of BCCI
The history of BCCI is classified into three phases:
Early Phase
The first time an Indian cricket team ever visited England was in 1912 when it was financed and led by the Maharaja of Patiala. The Imperial Cricket Conference, which is now known as the International Cricket Council, was attended by two members from India in 1926. The meeting’s outcome resulted in the India vs England cricket series.
The Maharaja of Patiala and others asked for the ICC to be included. In response to Gilligan’s assurance, a meeting was held in Delhi on November 21, 1927. The gathering was attended by representatives from various regions of India. As a result, on December 10th, 1927, the Board for Control of Cricket in India was established. The BCCI stands apart as an independent organisation and was incorporated under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act in December 1928. Anthony de Mello served as the first secretary, and R E Grant Govan served as the first president. The Indian cricket team visited England in 1932 for a series.

World Cup 1983 Victory
India competed in the 1983 Cricket World Cup in England, where it was successfully won for the first time by Kapil Dev as captain. Following this triumph, BCCI successfully bid to host the 1987 World Cup, demonstrating the board’s strong organisational skills.
The BCCI’s “Star of India” logo, according to Information Commissioner Sridhar Acharyulu, was inspired by the British Raj in 1928.
Reforms: 2017 Committee of Administrators
With the growth of cricket in India, BCCI also came under fire for its monopolistic actions and dealt with accusations of corruption. On January 30, 2017, the Supreme Court appointed a committee of administrators, which included Vinod Rai, the former chief accounting officer of India, Ramachandra Guha, Vikaram Limaye, and Diana Edulji, to oversee the BCCI’s implementation of Lodha Committee reforms. Sourav Ganguly is the BCCI’s president at the moment.
The National Anti-Doping Agency’s anti-doping systems were accepted by the BCCI on August 9, 2019.
Former Indian cricket team spinner Sunil Joshi was named as Chairman of the national selection panel by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of BCCI replacing M. S. K. Prasad in that role.

Revenue by BCCI
The BCCI is autonomous and independent and does not receive funding from the Indian government or any other ministry. It is the richest cricket council when compared to other cricket councils, despite the fact that it is independent. This is a result of India’s pervasive cricket culture. It derives its revenues from a variety of sources, including national team sponsors, media broadcasting rights, media rights of the Indian Premier League, and series sponsors. It makes money from the revenue received from all of these business partners.
