What is the full form of TMB?

The full form of TMB is Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited. TMB is a bank headquartered in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India. TMB was initially established as Nadar Bank in 1921, but in November 1962, it changed its name to Tamilnad Mercantile Bank to expand beyond the Nadar neighbourhood. TMB has tie-up arrangements with 136 IDBI Bank outlets and 531 HDFC Bank stores.

An Overview of TMB’s past

  • The founding of TMB took place in 1921.
  • The idea of creating a bank for the Nadar business sector was originally put forth at the annual general meeting of the Nadar Mahajana Sangam, held in Thoothukudi in 1920.
  • In 1921, AMM Sinnamani Nadar assumed control and was crucial to the bank’s growth.
  • AMM Sinnamani Nadar also took the initiative to acknowledge additional TMB founders.
  • On May 11th, 1921, the business received its inaugural licence under the Indian Companies Act, 1913 as Nadar Bank Limited.
  • M.V. Shanmugavel Nadar was chosen as the first chairman on November 4th, 1921.
  • T.V. Balagurusamy Nadar opened the bank to the public on 11 November 1921 in the Ana Mavanna Building on South Raja Street in Thoothukudi.
