What is the full form of EVM?

The full form of EVM is Electronic Voting Machine. EVM stands for electronic voting machines. It is a tool used to execute electronic voting in state and national elections in India.

A five-meter cord connects the two components of an electronic voting system, composed of two sections:

• Control unit – This is inside the polling or presiding officer.
• Ballot unit – This is inside the voting compartment.

The polling official in the Control Unit will issue a ballot by clicking the Control Unit’s Ballot button rather than releasing a ballot paper. The voter will be required to indicate his support by pressing the blue button next to the applicant’s icon and the icon of his choice on the voting machine.

• In India in 1980, M. B. Haneefa invented the first voting machine.
• The first iteration of the EVM machine was made available to the public at several government exhibitions held across six different locations in Tamil Nadu.
• In a few polling places during the election for Kerala’s Paravur constituency in 1982, EVMs were used for the first time.
• The Election Commission of India, in collaboration with Electronics Corporation of India Limited, approved EVMs in 1989.

• EVM decreases the possibility of ambiguous or invalid votes.
• EVM offers a quicker technique of counting votes than the traditional method. It keeps the election staff’s time and money.
• It is an environmentally good strategy because it avoids using paper, which saves trees. Because only one ballot paper or another piece of paper is needed at each polling location and using an EVM is less expensive than using traditional vote boxes for transit, it is a cost-effective option.

• More individuals will be able to vote in less time.
