What is the full form of XHTML?

The full form of XHTML is Extensible Hypertext Markup Language. It is a hybrid of the programming languages HTML and XML. XHTML is nearly identical to HTML, except it is more rigorous. XHTML is an XML application that is specified in HTML. It is supported by all major web browsers.

While XHTML is similar to HTML, it is far more crucial to create the code correctly since XHTML is more exacting in syntax and context-sensitivity than HTML. Unlike HTML, which has a permissive HTML-specific parser, XHTML files are well-formed and can be understood by conventional XML parsers.

A Brief History of XHTML

It was designed by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium). Web designers use XHTML to transition from HTML to XML. XHTML ensures content uniformity and makes it easy for developers to enter XML.

  • The initial document form in the XHTML family is XHTML 1.0, which was proposed by the W3C on January 26, 2000.
  • W3C proposed XHTML 1.1 as the second form of the document on May 31, 2001.
  • The third document format is XHTML5, which was developed in order to build the HTML5 standard for XML adaption.

Various components of XHTML

XHTML documents consist of three sections, listed as follows:

DOCTYPE

DOCTYPE is used to declare a DTD.

Head

The Head segment is used to announce the title and other associated attributes.

Body

The body is used to provide the content on web pages. It is composed of several tags.

It is necessary to submit a (DTD) Document Type Definition in order to build an XHTML webpage. The three types of DTD are as follows:

  • Transitional DTD – it is supported by older browsers that do not have CSS.
  • Strict DTD – This is used when the XHTML page contains solely markup language.
  • Frameset DTD – It is used when XHTML pages feature frames.

XHTML Benefits

  • To create tidy code, XHTML tags have closing tags that are suitably encoded.
  • It takes less bandwidth, which decreases website costs dramatically.
  • Web pages are created in conjunction with CSS.
  • Sending to wireless computers, braille readers, and other expert web circumstances is simple. The formatting is correct.
  • Web technology advancement.
