The full form of UPA is United Progressive Alliance. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is a coalition of centre-left political parties in India that was formed in the aftermath of the 2004 national elections. Sonia Gandhi, the UPA’s chairwoman, is currently the head of the INC, the UPA’s biggest and most influential party (Indian National Congress). When no party earned an overall majority in the 2004 election, the UPA was formed.
