What is the full form of UIDAI?

The full form of UIDAI is Unique Identification Authority of India. UIDAI is an Indian government body in charge of implementing the AADHAAR plan, which aims to provide all Indian people with a unique identity number.

UIDAI assists in the removal of duplicate and forged identities. Its headquarters are in New Delhi, and it maintains eight RO (Regional Offices) in different Indian cities. It operates two data centres, one in Hebbal, Bengaluru, Karnataka, and the other in Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana.

Points to remember about UIDAI

  • The UIDAI is a constitutional power and a government agency established on July 12, 2016, by the terms of the Aadhaar Act 2016, by the Indian Government under the domains of the Electronics and Information Technology Ministry.
  • The UIDAI is required to provide a 12-digit UID (unique identification) number called Aadhaar to all Indian citizens.
  • In January 2009, the Government of India formed the UIDAI as an associated office. Through a notification in the Indian Gazette, under the auspices of the Planning Commission.
  • The UIDAI data centre is located in Manesar’s IMT (Industrial Model Township), which was established on January 7, 2013, by then-Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Aadhaar data is kept on around 7,000 servers in Manesar and Bengaluru.

UIDAI is responsible for Aadhar identification and authentication, including the execution and control of all stages of the Aadhaar life cycle, as well as safeguarding the security of individuals’ identity and authentication papers. The UIDAI’s initial vision is listed below.
