What is the full form of LOC?

The full form of LOC is Line of Control in its entire form. The Line of Control (LOC) is the boundary between the militaries of Pakistan and India that control the portions of the former princely state of Jammu & Kashmir. The Line of Control is a de facto border between India and Pakistan rather than an official international border.

  • The LOC is a 740 km long military control line separating Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian state, from POK, or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
  • The Indian army frequently instals coils of sharply pointed wire to act as a kind of fence to protect the line.
  • There are control posts operated by the Indian army to protect the line on the Indian and Pakistani sides of the LOC.
  • It was dubbed the “Cease-fire Line” after the Simla Agreement, which was signed on July 3, 1972, replacing the “Line of Control.”
  • The region of the former princely state that India now governs is known as Jammu and Kashmir state and Kashmir, while the region that Pakistan governs is divided into Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
