What is the full form of EDP?

The full form of EDP is Electronic Data Processing. It has to do with how commercial data operations run, how storage records are handled, and how computers are used to transmit information from a sheet into an electronic format electronically. It was developed using the term DP (data processing). It is interchangeable with MIS or IS (Information System or Service) (Management information system or service). The three processing levels are as follows.

• Keyboards, scanners, digitizers, and other input devices process the data before it is entered into a system.
• Software programmes manage the information and frequently entail translation, code implementation, equations, authentication, and other operations.
• After processing, the information is delivered to the customer in audio, reports, video, and so forth.

A Brief History of EDP

• The LEO (Lyons Electronic Office) created and produced the first commercial business system in the UK in 1951.
• Real-time preparation of commercial information wasn’t simple and took more time.
• At that time, the information could only have been entered using punch cards or tapes for input processing. The output of these punchcards should be needed specifically.
• The technology was initially created by independent businesses, specifically data processing technologies.
• Punch cards ceased to function with the development of microprocessors, making it possible to execute & process data digitally using low-cost desktop computers.
