Why is it not possible to apply for Australia after New Zealand?
You cannot apply for an Australian Student visa from within Australia if you are currently holding a New Zealand Visitor visa, Temporary Graduate visa, or Maritime Crew visa, due to new rules effective 1 July 2024.
- Onshore applications are restricted for certain visa holders to prevent "visa hopping" - extending stay without genuine study intent.
- If you are in Australia on one of these affected visas, you must now apply for a Student visa from outside Australia.
- This restriction does not apply to all visa types, such as Working Holiday Maker visas.
Since you are currently in India and planning to apply for a Student visa from offshore, these changes will not affect your application process. If you need guidance on your next steps, please contact your LeapScholar counsellor.
