Since you already hold a degree in AI and Data Science, a broad Data Science specialisation would just repeat what you know. You should instead pick an advanced technical niche or an industry vertical that turns your predictive modelling foundation into production ready systems or business impact.

Technical specialisations to consider

SpecialisationWhat it coversTarget roles
MLOps, Machine Learning OperationsCI/CD for ML models, automated testing, model monitoring, cloud infrastructureMLOps Engineer, ML Platform Engineer
Generative AI and Agentic AILarge language models, retrieval augmented generation, autonomous agentsAI Application Developer, Generative AI Engineer
Data Engineering and Big Data ArchitectureScalable data pipelines, data warehousing, tools like Spark, Kafka, HadoopData Engineer, Big Data Architect
Perception Engineering, Computer Vision and NLPNeural networks for image processing, object recognition, language translationComputer Vision Engineer, NLP Engineer

Or choose an industry vertical instead

  • BFSI Analytics, covering fraud detection, algorithmic trading and credit scoring, leads to Quantitative Analyst or Risk Data Scientist roles.
  • Healthcare AI, covering bioinformatics, AI diagnostics and medical imaging, leads to Healthcare Data Scientist or Bio-Image Engineer roles.
  • Business Intelligence and Strategy, translating AI metrics into executive decisions, leads to Product Data Scientist or Analytics Manager roles.
  • Choose MLOps or Data Engineering if you enjoy coding and system design, Generative AI or Perception tracks if you want to stay deep in model architecture, or a domain vertical if you want to work closely with business leadership.

My Advice

Do not repeat your undergraduate coursework under a new label. Pick one clear lane, either deep technical, such as MLOps or Generative AI, or one industry vertical such as BFSI or healthcare, and build a portfolio project in that exact lane so Indian recruiters and GCCs can immediately see what problem you solve.
