BMAT vs The Test You Need Now
| Test | Status | Used For |
|---|---|---|
| BMAT | Discontinued after 2023 | No longer accepted by any university |
| UCAT | Currently active | UK medicine and dentistry admissions |
What This Means For Your Application
- UK medicine and dentistry: universities that formerly required BMAT, such as Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial, now use the UCAT instead.
- Other countries: medical admissions tests differ by country, so check the specific requirement for each university on your shortlist.
- Old BMAT scores: these are no longer relevant for any current admissions cycle.
My Advice
Register for the UCAT well ahead of your application deadline if you are targeting UK medical schools, and double check each university's current admissions test list before you finalise your preparation plan, since requirements have shifted since BMAT ended.
