What will be the fee structure for the programs in New Zealand for a Master's?

Do not compare universities on the annual fee alone. A 180 or 240 point master's can show a lower annual number than a 120 point degree while costing more in total, so check the programme's full point count before ranking universities by cost.

How the main universities compare by field and fee

• University of Auckland: the broadest strong option, with 2026 fees of NZ$55,484 a year for MSc and Engineering and NZ$47,675 for a 120 point Master of Commerce; best for Engineering, CS, AI, Data Science and Business.
• University of Waikato: the lowest cost route, with 2026 estimates including NZ$46,008 for a 120 point Master of Cyber Security and NZ$41,180 for a 120 point Master of Business.
• University of Canterbury: often NZ$45,000 to 55,000 per 120 points, strong for Engineering, CS and Data Science, though 180 or 240 point degrees cost more overall.
• University of Otago: roughly NZ$40,000 to 55,000 a year, the strongest choice if your field is Health, Medicine or the Sciences rather than Business or CS.

My Advice

Shortlist by field first, cost second. If you are set on Computer Science, AI or Data Science, Auckland, Canterbury, Waikato and Victoria Wellington all compete directly, so compare the actual course content and points structure rather than picking the cheapest headline fee. My backup suggestion: for Health or Biomedical fields, Otago is worth comparing against Auckland even though Auckland is the more recognised name overall.
