You typically need to show proof of full tuition fee payment for one year or for your entire programme (whichever is shorter) when applying for a New Zealand student visa.

If applying from outside New Zealand, you may wait to pay tuition until your visa is approved in principle, but you must still provide evidence that you have the necessary funds ready.

For the 2026 academic year, you must also show evidence of NZD $20,000/year for living expenses.

These requirements are subject to change.
