What is the procedure to apply for IELTS?

You can apply for the IELTS exam in India either online or in person at an IDP IELTS center.

- Online: Visit the official IDP IELTS India website, select your test type (Academic or General Training), choose your preferred date and location, fill out your details as per your passport, upload a scanned copy of your passport, and pay the current fee (₹19,000, subject to change).
- In person: Go to an IDP IELTS center, complete the registration form on their computer, submit your passport copy, and pay the fee.

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam typically involves four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each section tests a different English skill relevant for study abroad applications.

- Listening: 30 minutes
- Reading: 60 minutes
- Writing: 60 minutes
- Speaking: 11 - 14 minutes (may be scheduled separately)

You register online using your valid passport, select a test date and location, and book your slot - ideally 4 - 6 weeks in advance. Results are usually available within 13 days (paper-based) or sooner (computer-based). You then use your Test Report Form (TRF) to send scores to universities.

Some universities may offer an IELTS waiver if you meet specific criteria, such as prior education in English. If you are likely eligible for a waiver, confirm requirements for your chosen universities.
