What is the exam I need to write for the New Zealand Nursing Council?
You need to complete the New Zealand Nursing Council's competence assessment, which includes:
- Theoretical Examination: An online multiple-choice test covering nursing knowledge at the New Zealand-registered nurse level. This exam is administered by Pearson VUE and can be taken at designated centers in New Zealand or overseas.
- Part A: Medication Safety (12 questions, 30 minutes)
- Part B: Nursing Knowledge (108 questions, 135 minutes)
- You get three attempts per part and only need to retake the part you don’t pass.
- Clinical Competence Assessment (OSCE): A practical, in-person assessment held in Christchurch after a two-day orientation. You can attempt the OSCE up to three times if needed.
You must also complete the 'Welcome to Aotearoa New Zealand' online programme before registration. Exam formats and requirements are subject to change.
