The Master of Teaching and Learning (MTchgLn) is the direct pathway to becoming a registered teacher in New Zealand. Completing this program makes you eligible to apply for provisional teacher registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, which is required to work as a teacher in New Zealand schools. It includes supervised teaching practice and practical training.

The Master of Education (MEd) is an academic degree focused on education theory, leadership, or research. It does not lead to teacher registration and does not qualify you to work as a registered teacher in New Zealand schools.

Choose the MTchgLn if your goal is to teach in New Zealand schools. The MEd is more suitable for advancing in educational leadership, research, or policy roles.
