What is the BMAT exam and can you provide more information about it?
The BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) was a standardized exam used by some universities for entry into undergraduate medicine, biomedical sciences, and dentistry programs. It assessed aptitude, scientific knowledge, and written communication.
The test had three sections:
- Section 1: Aptitude and Skills (problem-solving, data analysis)
- Section 2: Scientific Knowledge (school-level science and maths)
- Section 3: Writing Task (short essay)
Scores for Sections 1 and 2 ranged from 1.0 to 9.0; Section 3 was marked for content (0-5) and written English (A, C, E).
The BMAT was discontinued after 2023. Many universities now require the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) instead. If you plan to apply for medicine or related fields, focus on the UCAT or other current requirements for your target universities.
