What are the student visa requirements and application process in Netherlands for a Master's?
To study for a Master's in the Netherlands, you’ll need a student residence permit (MVV + VVR). The process generally includes:
- Secure admission to a full-time, accredited Dutch university.
- Apply through Studielink (the Dutch application portal) by the university’s deadline - typically 1 May for September intake.
- Prepare documents: valid passport, admission letter, academic transcripts, proof of funds (at least €1,130.77/month for living expenses plus tuition), health insurance, English proficiency proof (such as IELTS 6.0+), and passport photos.
- University submits your visa application to Dutch immigration (IND) as your sponsor. Processing usually takes 3-4 months.
- Arrive and register with the local municipality within five days to get your citizen service number (BSN) and collect your residence card.
