What are the student accommodation options for postgraduate students at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, and how early should I apply to secure a spot?

The UT guarantee is a first-year safety net, not a promise of housing for your whole degree, so the timing question matters more than the accommodation options themselves.

The UT Housing Timeline You Actually Need to Hit

• By 30 June: arrange payment of your visa fee and tuition fee, and provide the required financial information.
• 16 May to 31 July: secure housing through the UT special offer inside Roomspot.
• By 31 July: sign up for Roomspot; after 1 August, UT can no longer provide the guaranteed offer for a September start.
• February intake equivalent: financial arrangements by 30 November, housing offer window 16 November to 15 January, and the guarantee lapses after 16 January.

What You Get and What You Don't

Through Roomspot, UT mediates furnished rooms with shared or private bathroom and kitchen arrangements, with rents currently around 350 to 550 euros a month for a room and 600 to 700 euros for a two-room apartment. The important limitation is that this guarantee covers a maximum of one year and cannot be renewed or extended, so you will need to arrange your own second-year housing well before your first contract ends.

Do not wait for your final admission letter to start this process; as soon as you receive a conditional offer and UT begins your visa steps, move on the financial and Roomspot steps in parallel rather than sequentially. Start looking for second-year accommodation the moment your first Roomspot contract begins, not when it is about to end, since the guaranteed housing pool resets each cycle and does not carry over.
