What additional documents and requirements should I prepare for my MBA application besides my IELTS score and GMAT results?

Test scores are only the entry ticket. Admissions committees weigh your resume, essays, and recommendations more heavily than most applicants expect, because those documents are what actually differentiate candidates with similar GMAT bands.

The Core Document File Every School Expects

• Transcripts and certificates: marksheets from every post-secondary institution you attended, plus your degree or provisional degree certificate, sometimes verified through a credential service such as WES.
• MBA resume: usually one to two pages, focused on measurable impact, leadership, and promotions rather than a plain list of job duties.
• Essays: typically cover why an MBA, why that specific school, short and long term career goals, and a leadership or setback story.
• Letters of recommendation: usually two, ideally from managers who can give specific examples of your work rather than a generic character reference.

Documents That Trip Up Indian Applicants Specifically

Passport name consistency across your GMAT registration, transcripts, and application form is checked closely, and mismatches cause delays. Schools also do not automatically require IELTS for every Indian applicant: some, including Harvard Business School, only require an English test if your undergraduate institution's sole language of instruction was not English, so check each school's policy rather than assuming a blanket rule.

After Admission

Once admitted, a separate set of visa related documents comes into play, including proof of funds, bank statements or loan sanction letters, and your admission offer letter. These are not part of the initial MBA application but become important quickly once you accept an offer.

My Advice

Start your essays and recommender outreach at least three months before your first deadline. Essays and references take far longer to get right than most applicants budget for, and a rushed recommendation letter from a manager who does not know you well can hurt an otherwise strong application more than a slightly lower test score.
