How do I find and shortlist scholarships in the Netherlands as an Indian student?
→Search for Netherlands scholarships by programme and profile rather than the largest amount. Begin with official sources such as Study in NL, university and faculty websites, Erasmus Mundus and external organisations. Then compare each award on nationality, study level, programme, funding, duration, deadline, documents and admission conditions.
What types of scholarships can I get as an international student in the Netherlands?
→Scholarships in the Netherlands are broadly divided into three types: national government scholarships, university-based scholarships and international funding programmes. Examples include the NL Scholarship (the Orange Knowledge Programme has ended with no new rounds), Radboud and Maastricht University awards, and Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Scholarships and Erasmus+ Grants.
Can I study completely free in the Netherlands as an Indian student?
→Indian students generally cannot study completely free in the Netherlands because universities charge tuition fees. However, a fully funded scholarship can significantly reduce or cover tuition, accommodation, travel, and living costs. Options include Erasmus Mundus, university scholarships, and sponsorship, though selection is competitive.
What minimum grade do I need for the Maastricht NL-High Potential Scholarship?
→Applicants to the Maastricht NL-High Potential Scholarship must have an academic result of at least 7.5 out of 10. Beyond grades, you generally need admission to an eligible Dutch programme, plus a programme-specific English test such as IELTS or TOEFL and programme-specific documents like a motivation letter and references.
Am I eligible for the NL Scholarship to study in the Netherlands?
→The NL Scholarship is open to international students from countries outside the European Economic Area. You must apply for a full-time bachelor's or master's programme at a participating Dutch university and meet that institution's admission requirements. Most universities also ask for proof of English proficiency.
How long should my motivation letter be for a fully funded scholarship in the Netherlands?
→For fully funded scholarships in the Netherlands, the motivation letter or essay limit varies, commonly 500 words, 600 words, or 1 A4 page, uploaded as a PDF. It should explain why you chose your specific programme and university. Check your scholarship's exact limit.
What IELTS or TOEFL score do I need for fully funded scholarships in the Netherlands?
→Fully funded scholarships in the Netherlands typically expect an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 to 7.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of 90 or above. Requirements are programme-specific, with some awards at the lower end and others at the higher end, so check your award before you apply.
How many days do I get to accept my scholarship offer in the Netherlands?
→You usually have about 14 days to confirm acceptance of a fully funded scholarship offer in the Netherlands, within the deadline stated in your award. Results typically arrive between April and June 2027, varying by award. After you accept, the university typically submits your residence permit application.
