No, New Zealand does not require a blocked account for student visa applicants.

You must show proof of sufficient funds for tuition, living expenses, and return travel. For tertiary studies, the minimum living cost is NZD $20,000/year (or NZD $1,667/month for courses under a year). Acceptable proof includes bank statements, prepaid accommodation receipts, or a sponsorship letter.

In some cases, Immigration New Zealand may ask you to use the Funds Transfer Scheme (FTS), where funds are transferred to a New Zealand bank account for access during your stay. Financial requirements and accepted documents are subject to change.
